  • Profile

    Shi (Sheldon) Qiu is a Professor in the School of Civil Engineering at Central South University (CSU). He has been an Associate Professor in College of Metropolitan Transportation at Beijing University of Technology after serving as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin (2014). With a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University (2013), an M.S. and a B.S. in Management Science from Beijing Jiaotong University (2009, 2007), his interdisciplinary research focuses on transportation (pavement, airport, rail) and municipal (e.g. utility tunnel) infrastructure development, performance measurement (PM), and intelligent infrastructure asset management and operation. Dr. Qiu currently serves as a executive deputy director of Center for Railway Infrastructure Smart Mornitoring and Management.  

     

    Dr. Qiu manages several innovative research programs on the operation and management of railway systems, and have received research funds exceeding two million dollars from both national and provincial governmental agencies and industries including the National Science Foundation of China. Dr. Qiu hopes to devote his continuous effort towards forging the nexus of smart transportation (with a focus on rail system), smart utility, smart energy and, eventually smart cities, through developing comprehensive and intelligent systems for infrastructure performance evaluation and management.
    Dr. Qiu is currently a standing young member of the TRB Committee on International Cooperation (A0010) and Committee on Tunnels and Underground Structures (AFF60), and the invited panel member of several European Union funded projects. Dr. Qiu is also a member of the Rail BIM Committee.
