Dr. Chen is a Professor in Geotechnical Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering, Railway Campus, Central South University. He holds a B.S. (Central South University 2001) and M.S. degrees (Central South University 2004), all in Geology Engineering. In 2007, Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. degree in Railroad Engineering from Central South University. He has been on the faculty of the department of geotechnical engineering at Central South University since March 2008. In September 2017, Dr. Chen was promoted as a full professor for his research accomplishments in the department of geotechnical engineering. Dr. Chen is also a committee member of TRB (Transportation Research Board) AFP70 Mineral Aggregates, as well as a committee member of WTC(World Transportation Conference).
Dr. Chen has taught undergraduate courses in Soil Mechanics, Geology Engineering，Foundation Engineering and Soil Stabilization, Introduction of transportation geotechnics engineering, Tunnel geological prediction, and Slope stabilization structure design. Dr. Chen also teaches the graduate courses in Advanced Soil Mechanics and Introduction of geotechnical testing new technologies.
Dr. Chen is the supervisor of Ph.D. graduate students and Master Degree graduate students. His research interests include Transportation Geotechnics (coarse-grained engineered materials), Engineering geological disaster (geological prediction in tunnel construction), Railway roadbed problem diagnosis and treatment technologies, Foundation protection technologies of existing railway infrastructure, and Grouting technologies. Most of his research topics are relevant to the railway infrastructures.
