Xiaodong Chen, Ph.D., Distinguished Associate Professor
Dr. Chen received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Central South University, China. He obtained his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK. His research primarily focuses on aerodynamics and experimental fluid mechanics. He has published 22 SCI papers as the first or corresponding author, all in JCR Q1 journals, with an average impact factor of 5. Among them, 2 papers were selected as Featured Articles and Editor's Pick by a journal of the American Institute of Physics. He holds three national invention patents as the first inventor.
Dr. Chen has been leading multiple research projects, including the 2022 National Postdoctoral Talent Fund "Postdoctoral International Exchange Program Introduction Project" (one of 350 nationwide), a subtask of the National Key R&D Program, the Youth Fund of the Hunan Natural Science Foundation, the General Project of the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the Open Fund of the National Key Laboratory for High-Speed Maglev Transport Technology, and a number of research projects funded by CRRC.
He serves as a Technical Committee Member of the World Transport Congress (2023-2026), was a postgraduate teaching assistant at a UK university (2019-2022), and worked as an aerodynamic technical evaluation engineer for the KLIA Railway in Malaysia (2017). Additionally, he is a reviewer for prestigious SCI journals, including Physics of Fluids, Measurement, Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, and Building and Environment etc.
Due to his outstanding contributions, he has been selected for the Province-Level "Hundred Talents Project" Overseas High-Level Talent Introduction Program (Youth) and the National-Level "Postdoctoral International Exchange Program Introduction Project."
Research Interests: Train aerodynamics, experimental fluid mechanics, novel flow control techniques, deep reinforcement learning.
