Dr Xu Deng is now an associate professor at Central South University. His research is focused on the development of novel bioactive natural product-based therapeutic agents to combat cancer and infectious diseases. Specifically, his lab is trying to develop novel chemical tools to enable rapid assembly of complex bioactive natural product backbone, which further facilitates the drug discovery based on targeted drug delivery or combination therapies, especially in anti-tumor drug discovery. He co-authored more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including 18 first-author/corresponding author papers published in Nat. Comm., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Org. Lett. et al. He also got 6 provincial/state-level grants, as well as 12 Chinese patents (7 of which were licensed).

团队研究方向
1、基于中药来源活性天然产物的创新药物发现；1）抗病毒新药研发：针对新发突发性病毒（SARS-CoV-2、SARS-CoV和流感病毒等）特异性靶点及关键宿主因子，基于特有的类天然产物库，发现和创制广谱抗病毒新药；2）抗肿瘤新药研发：针对肿瘤发生发展中关键的特异性蛋白翻译后修饰靶点，基于特有的中药来源类天然产物库，发现和创制靶向抗肿瘤新药；3）靶向抗肿瘤/病毒PROTAC药物创制。
2、基于新颖结构活性天然产物的化学生物学研究：聚焦病毒感染及肿瘤等重大疾病，利用基于表型药物筛选方法，对课题组特有的类天然产物库进行筛选，发现新颖结构候选分子，以其为工具分子，结合化学生物学和多组学技术，阐明其作用靶点和机制。
3、导向活性天然产物高效合成的方法学研究：1）铜催化自由基串联环化反应及其在吲哚类天然产物高效合成中的应用；2）铑催化的碳环化反应及其在萜类天然产物合成中的应用。
