We apply these methods to real problems of national and industrial importance. In meteorology, we collaborate closely with the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences and the climate centers of Guangdong, Chongqing, Hubei and Sichuan (Southwest Region) on statistical downscaling of precipitation and temperature, and on diagnostic attribution of climate change and (compound) extreme events; several systems developed by the group are now in operational use. In chip manufacturing, we have developed simulation software for optimizing flip-chip interconnect parallelism. We also work on time series forecasting and transportation big data analytics to support operational decision-making.
