Dr. Chang Shu got his medical degree at Hunan Medical College in 1989 and Ph.D. at Beijing Medical College in 2000. In the Ph.D. program, he learnt from Dr. Zhonghao Wang who is an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences. After getting Ph.D., he was selected by Beijing Medical College to study abroad in Stanford University and performed his post-doctoral research in Dr. C.K Zarins’ lab, who was the president of Society for Vascular Surgery. He returned to China in 2002 and was named the director of department of vascular surgery in Second Xiangya Hospital.
Dr. Chang Shu specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of aortic diseases and peripheral arterial diseases. He has successfully completed more than one thousand endovascular surgeries for aortic disease (more than 300 surgeries per year). He, for the first time, introduced the “Chimney Technique” as an important endovascular repair technique for the treatment of aortic dissection disease in China. As an expert in Endovascular Aortic Repair, he has introduced and promoted several cutting-edge operative techniques in China. Dr. Shu has been invited to perform operations in a number of countries, including Italy,Brazil,Argentina,Greece,Indonesia,the Philippines, Vietnam, etc. and also invited to more than 300 hospitals in China to perform surgeries and help treating patients. He has been invited more than 50 times by a number of conferences to give lectures and share Chinese experiences of endovascular treatment of aortic disease with experts from all over the world.
Dr. Chang Shu has been participating in many research projects and getting a number of grants supported by “973” project, NSFC, Hunan SFC and CSU. He has more than 100 publications in famous vascular journals including Journal of Vascular Surgery, Annual of Vascular Surgery, Annual of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Endovascular Therapy and PLoS One etc. For awards, he won the “Chinese Physician Award” in 2007, was honored as “excellent professor” by China Medical Board in 2011, was named as the “Xiangya Eminent Doctor” by CSU in 2012, and was selected as one of the 100 national eminent doctors in China.
