Wu Chao, 1957-, male, doctor of engineering, professor at the School of Resources and Safety Engineering of Central South University. Professor WU Chao is also a certified safety evaluation engineer, member of higher school of safety science and engineering of Teaching Guidance Committee of China Ministry of Education, member of China Work Safety Committee, member of editorial board of China Safety Science Journal and so on.
In Dec. 1991, he became a professor of the Central South University of Technology. During the period of Sept. 1986 to Jan. 1988, he was a visiting researcher worked at Lulea University of Technology in Sweden. During the period of Mar. to Dec. 1999, he was a visiting professor at the University of Nevada-Reno and at the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in the USA. During the period of May 2002 to Jul. 2014, he also served as the vice-dean of the School of Resources and Safety Engineering of Central South University.
During the past more than thirty years, professor WU Chao has been engaged in the teaching and research activities in the fields of safety and environmental protection. He opened more than ten courses for undergraduate and post-graduate students. He has supervised more than 100 master's and doctoral students. He had won 19 awards from the National and Provincial Agencies. He has published more than 300 papers (including corresponding author), of which more than 100 articles were cited in EI, SCI. He also published more than 20 monographs and textbooks.
Since 2004, professor WU Chao turned his research interest to the field of safety science theory and established several new disciplines such as the science of safety science, methodology of safety science, safety statistics, comparative safety science, similar safety systematics, safety culturology.
