Xie Yongfang, male, PhD, Second-grade Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Central South University, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

He obtained his Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degrees from the School of Information Science and Engineering, Central South University in 1993, 1996 and 1999 respectively. Recruited as a talented scholar, he joined the School of Information Science and Engineering of Central South University in June 2003 and was appointed Associate Professor. He was promoted to Professor in 2008. He was selected into the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University and Hunan Provincial Training Program for Young Backbone University Teachers in 2007, and funded by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2017.

Currently, he serves as an IEEE Senior Member and Editorial Board Member of Control Engineering. He also holds concurrent positions including Deputy Director of the Environmental Perception and Protection Automation Committee and Standing Committee Member of the Process Control Committee under the Chinese Association of Automation, as well as Standing Committee Member of the Intelligent Control and System Committee of Chinese Institute of Command and Control. He is a core member of the Innovative Research Group funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, focusing on control theory, technology and application of complex non-ferrous metallurgical processes.

His research mainly focuses on theoretical methodologies and practical technologies of intelligent optimal control for complex industrial processes. He has presided over 23 research projects in total, covering Distinguished Young Scholar Program, artificial intelligence emergency management projects, key programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Science and Technology Support Program, National Key R&D Program, National 863 Program, national high-tech industrialization demonstration projects, doctoral foundation programs and major university-enterprise cooperative projects. His research achievements have delivered remarkable practical benefits.

He has been awarded one Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, six First Prizes and five Second Prizes at provincial, ministerial and industrial association levels. He has published 180 SCI-indexed papers in journals including IEEE Transactions and IFAC journals, authored 5 academic monographs, and been granted 36 national invention patents.

In terms of talent cultivation, one doctoral student supervised by him won the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award issued by the Chinese Association of Automation, one won the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award of Hunan Province, and one won the Excellent Master’s Dissertation Award of Hunan Province. Many postgraduates have received National Scholarship, University President Scholarship and other academic honors.

He recruits 1 postdoctoral researcher, 1 doctoral candidate and 3 master students every year. Research directions include industrial artificial intelligence and application, industrial large model, machine vision and perception, as well as deep learning technologies such as graph neural network, knowledge graph and deep convolutional network.
