Personal Information

Dr. Xiao-Xin Yan earned his Bachelor of Medicine (Clinical Medicine,BM) and Master degree (Master of Medicine, MMed, Anatomic Science) from Hunan Medical University, and PhD in Neurobiology at Central South University. Yan was a lecturer in the Department of Human Anatomy at Hunan Medical University from 1990 to 1995, and a visiting scholar (mentored by Drs. Laurence Garey and Lingsun Jen)to the Department of Anatomy at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (currently a part of Imperial College London), UK. He received postdoctoral training at University of Utah, Moran Eye Center (mentored by Dr. Helga Kolb) and University California Irvine, Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology (mentored by Drs. Charles Ribak and Michael Leon) from 1995-2000. Yan worked as a senior research scientist at DuPont Pharma then Bristol Myers-Squibb from 2001-2005. Yan was a tenure-track assistant professor of Anatomy at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine from 2005-2011, and currently a full professor in the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology at Xiangya School of Medicine.

Dr. Yan’s research interests include neurodevelopment, plasticity and brain aging. His research has been funded by NIH,Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH),and by the National Natural Science Foundation and Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China since 2011. He has served as a reviewer for multiple international journals and as an editorial member for several journals. Yan has authored over 160 papers, which have been cited more than 4900 times, with a researcher's H index 38 (based on Google Scholar: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=uEJt9TQAAAAJ&hl=zh-CN&oi=ao).
