Abstract:Modernity begins with enlightenment. In the local imagination of Chinese literature in twentieth Century, on the one hand, the enlightenment thought has promoted the strong appeal of the intellectuals to the modernity, on the other hand, under the guidance of the enlightenment, the intellectuals caught a glimpse of the negative effects of modernity, so they began to reflect on modernity, this paradox is the performance of the dual attitude Chinese intellectual pursuit of modernity and hesitation.
