Profile

Wenchao Zhang, Ph.D., is Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Metallurgy and Environment, Central South University. He is a recipient of the National Overseas High-Level Young Talent Program, a Leading Scientific and Technological Innovation Talent under the Hunan Furong Talent Program, a Distinguished Expert of the “Hundred Talents Program,” and a Lifetime Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials. He is also a young core member of the NSFC Innovative Research Group and the MOST Innovation Team in Key Fields. His research focuses on the resource utilization of metallurgical solid wastes.

He studied under Prof. Zaiping Guo, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and recipient of the Australian Laureate Fellowship, as well as Prof. Liming Dai, Fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors, Member of Academia Europaea, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and recipient of the Australian Laureate Fellowship. After returning to China, he joined the research team led by Academician Liyuan Chai.

Professor Zhang has published more than 90 papers in leading journals, including Nature Communications, Science Advances, Joule, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, and Advanced Materials. His publications have received over 10,000 citations, with more than 10 papers recognized as ESI Highly Cited Papers, and he has an H-index of 49.

He has served as a Young Editorial Board Member of Eco-Environment & Health and Rare Metals, and as an Editorial Board Member of Circular Economy. He has led one Youth Project under the National Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, three projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one Australian Synchrotron research project, and one Frontier Interdisciplinary Project of Central South University. He has also participated in several major provincial- and ministerial-level projects, including Major Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Major Projects of the Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province.
