Abstract:This paper presents a novel study that investigates complete quenching phenomena in a twodimensional (2D) semilinear diffusion equation, which arises in the context of catalytic and enzymatic reactions. A numerical scheme that utilizes a nonuniform spatial discretization is employed to effectively resolve the steep gradients encountered at the time of uenching. Further, an adaptive time mesh is implemented to optimize time-step and accurately measure both single-point and complete quenching across the entire domain. The stability of the numerical scheme is analyzed under special constraints on the time step. Simulations are conducted numerically for both 1D and 2D problems to investigate critical domain sizes. The time of single-point quenching and complete quenching is compared and analyzed to understand their relationship with initial conditions, as well as the dynamics of parameter control related to the source term. Finally, the numerical results are validated by comparing the computed outcomes of quenching with existing findings in the literature. This paper is the first to extend the simulation study of single-point quenching, a well-established concept in the literature, to complete quenching and to compare these two phenomena.
