Ping Cheng, Distinguished Associate Professor, Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (University of Strasbourg), Ph.D. in Traffic and Transportation Engineering (Central South University), Postdoctoral Researcher (Southern University of Science and Technology)

His research interests mainly include lightweight design and safety protection of transportation vehicles, development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and structural batteries, intelligent manufacturing systems and products, as well as mechanics of composite materials and environment-responsive intelligent sensing structures. To date, he has published more than 30 peer-reviewed academic papers as the first or corresponding author in top journals, including Composites Part B: Engineering, Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, and Journal of Manufacturing Processes. His publication record covers 1 ESI Hot Paper and 2 ESI Highly Cited Papers. He has been granted 5 national invention patents, with an additional 4 patents under substantive examination.

He has received numerous academic honors and awards, including the Outstanding Young Editorial Board Member of Additive Manufacturing Frontiers and the Wiley Highly Downloaded Author Award. He has presided over several research projects, including the Youth Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the General Program of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, and the National Funded Postdoctoral Researcher Program. He has also participated in key national R&D programs, international cooperation projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and foreign scholar research fund projects.

He currently serves as a Young Editorial Board Member for multiple SCI journals, including Additive Manufacturing Frontiers, International Journal of Smart and Nano Materials, and Applied Mechanics. Additionally, he acts as a regular peer reviewer for numerous prestigious international journals such as Composites Part A, Composites Part B, Virtual and Physical Prototyping, and Mechanism and Machine Theory.

Dr. Ping Cheng is currently a faculty member in the Department of Traffic Equipment and Control Engineering, School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, Central South University. The research team is supported by top-tier research platforms, including National Key Laboratories and Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education. The team has established long-term and stable academic cooperation and exchange relationships with world-renowned universities, such as the University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales, Imperial College London, the University of Tokyo, the University of Strasbourg, the University of Lorraine, and the Kaiserslautern University of Technology.
