Guanghua Lei, MD, PhD, senior professor and chief physician of Orthopaedic surgery, has been serving as the president of Xiangya hospital, Central South University since 2018. He is now appointed as the Science and Technology Innovation Leading Scientist of the National “Ten Thousand Talent Program”, the “Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor” by the Ministry of Education, the “Young and Middle-aged Leading Science and Technology Innovation Talents” by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Outstanding Expert of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the Leader of the National Key Clinical Program on Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, and earned the “State Council Special Allowance”. He is the director of National Clinical Research Center of Geriatric Disorders, the director of Hunan Key Laboratory of Joint Degeneration and Injury, the director of Hunan Engineering Research Center for Prevention and Treatment of Osteoarthritis, and the director of Hunan Clinical Research Center of Joint Surgery. He serves in positions across different committees : vice president of Chinese Medical Doctor Association Orthopaedics Surgeons Branch Committee, vice president of Chinese Research-Oriented Hospital Association, vice president of Osteoarthritis Subcommittee of Chinese Medical Association Orthopaedics Branch Committee, vice president of Arthroscope Subcommittee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association Endoscopic Doctor Branch Committee, and president of Orthopaedics Committee of Hunan Medical Association. He also serves as the associate editor of BMC musculoskeletal disorders and editor in chief of China Journal of Endoscopy. His clinical practices mainly involves joint arthroplasty and joint arthroscopy and the institutes where he further studied joint replacement, reconstruction and arthroscopy include ENDO-Klinik clinic in Germany, Rush University Medical Center in the United States, diakonie hospital in Germany, Prince of Wales Hospital of Chinese University of Hong Kong and Queen Mary Hospital of University of Hong Kong. He has long been committed to both the clinical and basic research of the pathogenesis, treatment and prognosis of osteoarthritis. In recent years, he has obtained five project funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (including one key project), one of National Key Research and Development Project, and several others of Key Research and Development Program of Hunan Province. To date, 131 manuscripts have been published in peer-reviewed SCI journals with him as corresponding author, including JAMA, New Engl J Med, Br J Sports Med, Osteoarthritis Cartilage, J Bone Miner Res, Rheumatology and Acta Biomater, etc. The total impact factor reaches 656.014, with the highest impact factor of original investigations 45.54. In addition, he has obtained 29 national patents, compiled 13 monographs, and won the second prizes of both Hunan Natural Science Award and Hunan Science and Technology Progress Award.
