Prof. Junjie Wang, Chief Young Scientist of the National Key R&D Program, has been consecutively listed in Elsevier's Top 2% Global Scientists (both lifetime and annual rankings) and serves as a council member of the Concrete and Cement Products Branch of the Chinese Ceramic Society. As a project principal investigator, he has led three national-level projects, including the '14th Five-Year Plan' Young Scientists Project under the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Youth) Project. He received his bachelor's degree from the School of Civil Engineering, Hunan University, and his master's degree from the College of Civil Engineering, Zhejiang University. In 2015, he earned a PhD from Queen's University, UK. Afterwards, he engaged in postdoctoral research at New York University Abu Dhabi. From February 2020 to January 2026, he served as an assistant researcher and graduate advisor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University. Since February 2026, he has been a Distinguished Professor at Central South University. He is the first inventor of four authorized national invention patents and has received multiple provincial and ministerial awards. He has published 60 SCI papers as first or corresponding author in top international journals including Cement and Concrete Research, Cement and Concrete Composites, and Resources, Conservation & Recycling (among them, 12 papers with IF>10, one ESI Hot Paper, and two ESI Highly Cited Papers). His H-index is 40, with over 5,000 citations on Scopus, and his single most-cited paper has been referenced more than 530 times; related achievements have received positive recognition in the main journal of Nature. He serves on the editorial boards of Scientific Reports and Frontiers in Built Environment, as well as the Youth Editorial Boards of Journal of Zhejiang University-Science A (Applied Physics & Engineering) and Journal of Composite Materials. As editor-in-chief, he jointly worked with Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Hunan University, Guizhou Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., China Railway Investment & Construction Group Co., Ltd., and 25 other universities, research institutes, and construction units to compile and release the civil engineering society group standard T/CCES 64-2025 'Technical Regulations for the Application of Recycled Aggregate Concrete'.

Our research group’s research directions include: regenerative cementitious materials/concrete, durability of materials in extreme environments, toughening and strengthening of existing concrete structures, and AI-designed/bionic composite materials.
In 2026, our research group will enroll 2 domestic master's students and 2 international master's students.
