Lichun Bai is a Professor and Doctoral/Master's Supervisor at Central South University. He received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Physics and Condensed Matter Physics, respectively, from Lanzhou University, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He conducted postdoctoral research at NTU from 2016 to 2018 before joining Central South University at the end of 2018. 

His research focuses on enhancing the reliability and durability of critical components in defense and rail transportation systems. His work spans the development of multiphysics digital twin systems under extreme environments, surface/interface engineering of novel materials, data-driven multiscale mechanical analysis and design, as well as accelerated testing and service-life prediction of engineering equipment. 

With over 80 SCI-indexed publications, he has contributed to top-tier international journals such as Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Materials, Advanced Science, Carbon, Tribology International, Applied Surface Science, Tribology Letters, and Journal of Applied Physics. He has led multiple national and provincial research projects, along with defense-related and industry-sponsored sub-programs, with a total funding of over RMB 14 million. He serves as an Associate Editor for Computer Modelling in Engineering & Sciences and reviews more than 20 internationally renowned journals.  

Prof. Bai admits 1–2 PhD and 3 Master's students annually. Candidates with a background in transportation, mechanics, mechanical engineering, physics, and related fields are strongly encouraged to apply. Interdisciplinary candidates are particularly welcome.
