  • Abstract:For the first time, a large sized AZ80-Ag alloy ring was successfully manufactured by hot ring rolling (HRR) at 673 K. The effects of the HRR process and aging treatment on microstructure, texture and mechanical properties were systematically investigated. The microstructure is mainly composed of the equiaxed grains, suggesting the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization. After aging at 448 K for 36 h, considerable discontinuous fl-MgvAliz precipitates with a small number of continuous beta-Mg17Al12 phase. Ag is mainly segregated in the beta-Mg17Al12 precipitates. The yield strength along the axial direction is higher than that along the rolling direction, indicating obvious mechanical anisotropy due to the inclination of {0002} basal pole towards the rolling direction. After aging treatment, the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength are enhanced owing to the precipitation of beta-Mg17Al12 phase.
