Personal Information

Dr. Yu Qiu is currently an Associate Professor of the School of Energy Science and Engineering at Central South University (CSU). His research is focused on the following four topics: 

(I)  High-temprature (>400°C) and ultra-high-temperature(>1300°C) solar thermal power. Optical characterization and configuration optimization of various CSP collectors are focused. Corresponding codes have been developed based on Monte Carol ray tracing. Heat transfer and thermochemistry simulation in solar receivers under non-uniform solar flux are studied. Thermal enhancement ideas, such as the optimization of receiver and tube geometries, the use of inserts and fins, etc. are considered. 

(II) Thermal energy storage and heat transfer enhancements.

(III) Solar-driven Hydrogen Production.

(IV) Solar-driven interfacial evaporation.

He received his bachelor of engineering degree from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) in 2013. He obtained his PhD degree from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, XJTU, in 2019, under Prof. Ya-Ling He’s supervision. He had studied in Georgia Institute of Technology as a visiting scholar/PhD candidate from Nov. 2017 to Nov. 2018 under Prof. Asegun Henry’s supervision. He joined CSU in 2019 as an associate professor. 

Dr. Yu Qiu received the 2019 First Prize of Provincial Natural Science Award of Shaanxi Province of China, a Wang Buxuan-Guo Zengyuan Outstanding Paper Award at 2017 Heat and Mass Transfer Conference of Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, an Outstanding Paper Award from the 6th Graduate Forum of China Solar Thermal Alliance (CSTA). 

He is a Topic Editor of journal Energies. He is a member of China Renewable Energy Society (CRES) and a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He worked as session chairs of Applied Energy Symposium 2020 and 2017 Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference. He also works as reviewers of a number of journals including Applied Energy, Energy Conversion and Management, Renewable Energy, Solar Energy, Journal of Solar Energy Engineering-T ASME, Frontiers in Energy, Ceramics International, Energies, etc.
